Last night, I watched The Painted Veil. It's exactly the type of movie I fall for within the first five minutes, not least because of the unrequited love theme and both Naomi Watts and Edward Norton giving a stellar performance. In addition to that, the cinematography is truly beautiful, especially the shots of the Chinese landscape. It all adds to the quiet and understated way in which the story is told, leaving you breathless and aching in the end. ♥

I still haven't seen the latest SPN ep; if things go right, I'll finally see it tonight. Now I'm just waiting for nightfall, but what's another few hours after such a long wait?

# Today's the first day in about a week that I feel at least a slight bit energized. Work has been draining, but I've got myself to blame: I've been pushing myself hard these past weeks, and maybe now I've reached my boundaries. I sure feel like collapsing onto my bed in a near-comatose state at the end of each shift.

# My throat's so sore that even speaking hurts; I just hope I won't get any sicker than this.

# Photoshop doesn't tempt me these days. CS2 is great, but I miss PS7 and its nifty file browser. Bridge is driving me to distraction, what with it not being an integral part of PS. I don't want to have to switch windows to browse through my files, dammit.

# In crazy shopping news, I caved and ordered myself a new cell phone. It should arrive by Friday, which: is it Friday yet? Well, is it??

# I keep rewatching the How To Train Your Dragon trailer because it amuses me to no end. What can I say? I'm a sucker for dragons (I've read my way through the entire Dragonriders of Pern series like, three times) and this movie has such an uplifting, positive vibe it just makes me smile and smile.

# In conclusion: I miss Dean and Cas (and the not so subtle Dean/Cas subtext). And Sam and Bobby and the Impala, too. SEND MOAR SPN NOW, PLS. OKTHNXBAI.

just the usual )

And now I'll catch up with comments and stuff. :)

look, ma, it's a cut )

Today I would like to...

... write a h/c-ish ficlet about Cas and Dean and the smallest acts of kindness.

... finish enough icons for an icon post.

... get started on a Dean/Cas fanmix (including cover art, which is kinda sorta already done, heh).

... watch the Supernatural season premiere.

... write a District 9 review that consists of something a little more constructive than "ZOMG I don't have the words".

... finish all the work-related stuff that is in dire need of being finished.

... play MAW until I fall asleep on top of my keyboard.

MOAR hours in the day, pls?

+ I was stung by some bug or other and now my hand is itching and swelling and itching some more and I'm so not in the mood for this. Yay for cortisone.

+ There's a ton of unfinished icons waiting for my attention, and I can't decide which ones I should finish first. Though I really want me some Legion icons (Paul Bettany with holy scripture tattoed all over his body asksdjkf;!), so I guess that's my solution right there.

+ I switched to Cleartype the other day and now I feel like smacking myself upside the head for not doing this like, years sooner.

+ Heroes is back on air since last week; I'd kind of forgotten just how much I'm into dark!Peter.

+ My Dean/Cas love is flaring like you wouldn't believe, and if I can just hang on to my enthusiasm there should be fic soon. I hope. *glares at Word*

+ I'm going to see District 9 tomorrow and I'm super excited for it. Go you, sensational sci fi thing!

Music meme, nicked from [livejournal.com profile] seablue_eyes: "You can learn a lot about someone by the music they listen to. So here is the game! Hit shuffle on your ipod or mp3 player [Winamp] and write down the first 25 songs. No cheating or skipping songs that are shameful. That is the fun! Then tag your friends."

ah one, ah two, ah one two three four )

Also: trailer show. Because there's nothing like looking forward to the big screen goodness, yo.

a) Legion. Post-apocalyptic, with Paul Bettany. God is fed up with our crap, and sics a legion of angels on mankind. Archangel Michael stands up for humanity's last and only hope. (I totally want a fic crossover with SPN, in which Cas and Michael do wicked naughty things to Dean. Paul Bettany, Misha Collins + Jensen Ackles, you guys. *fans self*)

b) District 9. I'm a sucker for sci fi movies, and I think this one has potential.

c) Ponyo. I will watch anything by Hayao Miyazaki, he's that much of a genius.

d) Gamer. I'm only looking forward to this one for entirely naugthy and wrong reasons. Plus, eye candy galore.

e) The Men Who Stare At Goats. The premise alone, you guys, it kills. Plus: George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges. This one will kill me dead laughing (like the trailer very nearly already did).

f) Sherlock Holmes. Seriously, who isn't waiting for this one?! I have a world of want for Holmes and Watson and Holmes/Watson. WANT.

So I'm about three months late to the party. My only excuse is that the insanity levels of work have reached a peak that would drive them through the roof of the Burj Dubai with ease. I kid you not. But, on with the show.

in which I blubber on about the awesomecakes that's Star Trek XI [and abuse capslock because it is FUN] )
ethia: (Default)
Just saw Transformers 2, and I really liked it, despite my usual misgivings about sequels.

A few short observations: cut for spoilers )

In other news, I seem to be getting used to watching military stuff (which I used to hate for the longest time); next thing I know, I'll start watching Generation Kill. 0.0 Tonight, Jarhead's on TV, and I'm more than willing to give it a try.
ethia: (Default)
To-do today:

1. Write Dean/Cas fic about the act of praying and how it doesn't have to be with words.
2. Squee a lot a tiny little bit about the latest clip from the upcoming Trek movie (Kirk and Sylar!Spock and how could they cram that much UST into one single scene??!!).
3. Clean up layout.
4. Finish eyefuck icon. Because Cas demands it with his eyefucking ways.
5. Rewatch latest HP6 trailer about 4 dozen times because Death Eaters traveling as black clouds is the most fascinating thing to watch ever.
6. Debate with myself over buying the T:SCC season 1 box set.
ethia: (spn > won't you take the fall /me/)
Oh, show.

I wrote fic today! Or, rather, part of a longer fic but the point is that I finally wrote something. Which, funny that, 'cause I'd actually planned to get some icons done and put together an icon post. That'll have to wait until mid-week, I guess. Not that I didn't also work on some icons today. :D Yay, spontaneous burst of creativity!

Finally saw Slumdog Millionaire and loved the hell out of it. I feel like reading the book (Q&A) now.

On a side note: changed the layout because show made me feel like I needed to. Also, more Castiel is always of the good.
ethia: (spn > never quite close enough /me/)
.one I'm working on a black and white Lazarus Rising picspam; it's a bit of an on and off thing because I get distracted by teh pretty a lot.

Photobucket
This is my favorite so far but I'm only halfway through and there are many many more. Dean kinda does that to me. ♥

.two I need it to be May, and bad. Star Trek and Terminator: Salvation both look stunning and I WANT THEM NOW.

.two a The latest Star Trek trailer leaves me flailing whenever I watch it (which: I do that a lot, a whole lot), what with the awesometastic music and I dare you to do better and FIRE EVERYTHING at the top of Nero's voice. Also: Karl Urban as Bones and Zach Quinto as Spock! Such. Love.

.two b The Terminator: Salvation trailer #3 kills me with the Nine Inch Nails and Christian Bale and the stunning clarity and starkness of its imagery. I have a thing for post-apocalyptic stories so yeah, this one'll do nicely.

.three I want to see Slumdog Millionaire, because it will be awesome. I'll probably cry my eyes out but still.

.four As late to the party as ever, but: I really really love The Republic Tigers and Starsailor. The Tigers' The Nerve is on infinite replay in the back of my head; it's just that catchy. But your eyes are dumbin' me down And I can't take mine off of you.
ethia: (spn > once like a spark /me/)
So I went and saw Watchmen last night and man, I have no words. I tend to say that a lot but in this case it's utterly true. The movie blew me away, even though it was nothing like I expected. My mind's still reeling with its dark and gritty tone and the harshness it employs in driving its point home. The Comedian, and Jon, and don't even get me started on Rohrschach AND HIS FACE. There are no words, but awesome and gripping and sliding right under your skin will have to do for now. \o/

Last night's trailer show included Transformers 2, Terminator: Salvation and X-Men Origins: Wolverine and man, this movie season is going to be one long dark trip into the Doom of Mankind, isn't it? Even Star Trek didn't lift the mood much, though the trailer was new to me and I enjoyed the hell out of it. I totally dig this new Kirk, oh how I do.

In other news, I'm stumped in my Supernatural marathon, mostly because I can't seem to bring myself to see Dean being dragged off to hell. Which: suckage, because I'm more than ready to get sucked in by Castiel's many charms (and why yes, I'm spoiled beyond repair and Impatience is my middle name). Also: Sam vs Dean FTW. I want that.
ethia: (Default)
cut for lengthiness that isn't here (yet) )
ethia: (im > knows her way around him /me/)
Star Trek trailer FTW. Can't stop watching it because it's so fucking awesome. Young!Kirk, the car, the ravine, that indomitable will to survive. May's a long way away and I WANT THIS MOVIE NOW OMG and I just know I'm going to slash the living daylights out of Kirk and Sylar!Spock. This movie will grip me and rattle me and keep me in its hold the way The Dark Knight did and I can't wait for that to happen. Hurry up, May! \o/

Also: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Love the new trailer. It looks stunning and gorgeous and oh so deliciously dark. I'll weep for my poor abused Severus, though, oh yes I will.

Also also: Watchmen. There are no words for how much I want this movie. No words at all. AND IT ISN'T EVEN MARCH YET.

I've got plans for a layout revamp and new icons, and with my X-mas vacation coming up there's actually a chance I'll get around to being creative again. Yeehah!

And who knows, with all that free time on my hands, I might actually get around to writing something, too. Like maybe a Supernatural ficlet or two, because Sam and Dean are hot and I'm halfway to hell already so I might as well go down this road. Right now the Dean in my mind is sensuous and clingy and seductive, while Sam's indulgent and protective so that should be fun. Brothers on a hotel bed, heh.
ethia: (tdk > no more than a naked face /me/)
Man, I've got the hots for Christian Bale. I plan on feeding my habit by mainlining Equilibrium, Reign of Fire and The Prestige. With an emphasis of Reign of Fire. It's a bad movie, and cheesy, and full of plotholes, but I do enjoy the hell out of it. For all the right reasons. Hi, eye candy.

Don't know why, but I seem to be swinging back to Batman/Gordon instead of Jim/Bruce. I'm not expecting my preferences to set any time soon. This should make for interesting times, methinks.

I'm on a four day mini-vacation, so there should be time for writing amidst all the lazing around I have to do. Bruce/Jim is right on top of my list, although another piece is trying to sneak into the top spot. Well, we'll see... *prods slightly battered motivation*
ethia: (tdk > no more than a naked face /me/)
Babylon A.D. was... pretty. And its soundtrack was decent. And it had Romy Schneider's daughter in it. So, yeah. I can has a good scifi movie soon, yes?

Caught a bit of the Fifth Element today and oh hell yeah, Gary Oldman. He does have a tendency to pick roles with whacky elaborate costumes, no? Which is probably why I tend to recognize him by his mouth and eyes.

So, I thought about Bruce and Jim dancing together and whether it's so OOC that it could only be written as crack. I mean, I can sort of picture it, but then I don't really see them actually doing it, like, waltzing across the floor of Bruce's living-room; it just seems too... mushy. On the other hand, with cross-dressing and a fair amount of jealousy (on Bruce's part) thrown into the mix, I can just see it happen. Bad brain, no cookie.
ethia: (Default)
That Batman Kink Meme makes for interesting reading material. Very inspirational, too. Not to mention reassuring to see my mind's not the only one that's stuck in the gutter.

I'm ODing on the Clint Mansell version of Requiem For A Dream, said by some to be one of the most overused trailer soundtracks. While that's probably true, it doesn't keep me from enjoying the song and watching the Babylon A.D trailer in which it is used. Mhm, Vin Diesel. In a scifi flick. Just what I've been waiting for.
ethia: (gp > saltbreaker /me/)
Feeling inspired, as in I could write and write and only stop to breathe every now and then. But. There is no time. None for me to shave off the day and stash away until nightfall when inspiration strikes most often. Oh, the injustice. However, I'm most grateful to Tony and Pepper and that delicious dichotomy of want-can'thave and all the tension that springs of it.

I want to see The Dark Knight, badly. Like: two weeks ago. Want to shiver in awe of Ledger's perfomance and the Joker's single-minded cold-bloodedness. This will be one long wait, I can tell.
